Flynn : (narrating) This is the story of how I died. Don't worry, this is actually a very fun story. And the truth is, it isn't even mine. This is the story of a girl, named Rapunzel. And it starts, with the sun.

(해설) 이것은 내가 어떻게 죽었는지에 대한 이야기야. 걱정마, 이건 사실 아주 재미있는 이야기야. 사실은 나에 관한 이야기도 하니야. 이것은 라푼젤이라는 소녀의 이야기야. 이야기는 태양과 함께 시작돼.

Flynn: Now, once upon a time, a single drop of sunlight fell from the heavens. And from this small drop of sun, grew a magic, golden, flower. It had the ability to heal the sick, and injured.

자, 옛날 옛적에 하늘에서 한 방울의 햇빛이 떨어졌어. 그리고 이 작은 햇빛 한 방울에서 마법의 황금빛 꽃이 자라났어. 그 꽃은 아프고 다친 사람을 치유할 수 있는 능력이 있었어.

Oh, you see that old woman, over there? You might want to remember her. She's kind of important.

오, 저기 저 할머니 보이지? 그녀를 기억해두는 게 좋을거야. 좀 중요한 사람이야.

Well, centuries passed and a-hop-skip-and-a-boat-ride away there grew a kingdom. The kingdom was ruled by a beloved King and Queen. And the Queen, well she was about to have a baby, and she got sick, really, sick. She was running out of time. And that's when people usually start to look for a miracle. Or in this case, a magic golden flower.

세월이 흘러 저만치 배를 타고 갈 수 있는 곳에 왕국이 생겨났어. 그 왕국은 국민에게 총애받는 왕과 왕비가 다스리고 있었어. 그리고 왕비는 곧 있으면 아기를 낳게 되었어. 그런데 왕비는 몸이 안좋아졌어, 아주 심하게 아팠어. 왕비에게는 시간이 얼마 남지 않았어. 사람들은 보통 이럴 때 기적을 찾기 시작하지. 이 경우는 '마법의 황금빛 꽃'을.

(Mother Gothel enters the scene.) Ahhh, I told you she'd(would) be important. You see instead of sharing the Sun's gift, this woman, Mother Gothel, hoarded its healing power and used it to keep herself young for hundreds of years. And all she had to do was sing a special song.

(마덜 가텔이 화면으로 들어옴) 아, 내가 이 할머니가 중요할거라고 말했었지. 봐, 태양의 선물을 나누는 대신에 가텔이란 여자는 그 치유의 힘을 몇 백년동안 자신의 젊음을 유지하는데만 썼어. 그녀는 단지 특별한 노래를 부르기만 하면 됐어.

Flynn: (He narrates.) All right, you get the gist. She sings, she turns young. Creepy, right?

Flynn: (he narrates.) The magic of the golden flower, healed the queen. A healthy baby girl, a princess was born. With beautiful golden hair. I'll give you a hint. That's Rapunzel. To celebrate her birth, the King and Queen launched a flying lantern into the sky. For that one moment, everything was perfect. And then that moment ended.

(해설) 그 '마법의 황금빛 꽃'은 여왕의 병을 치료했어. 아름다운 금발머리를 한 건강한 아기 공주님이 태어났어. 힌트를 줄게. 이 아이가 라푼젤이야. 라푼젤의 출생을 축하하기 위해 왕과 왕비는 하늘로 풍등을 날렸어. 그순간 만큼은, 모든 것이 완벽했어. 그리고 그 순간은 끝났어.

꽃아 반짝반짝 빛나라, 너의 힘이 빛을 발하게 해. 시계를 거꾸로 돌... (헉 하는 충격을 받아) Flynn: (narrates.) Gothel broke into the castle and stole the child. Just like that... gone. The Kingdom searched and searched, but they could not find the Princess. For deep within the forest, in a hidden tower, Gothel raised the child as her own.

가텔은 성을 부수고 들어가 아기를 훔쳐가버렸어. 그렇게.. 가버렸어. 왕국은 아기를 찾고 또 찾았지만 공주를 찾아내지 못했어. 숲속 깊이 숨겨진 탑 안에서 가텔이 아기를 기르고 있었어. (Cut scene to the hidden tower. Gothel is brushing Rapunzel’s hair.)

(숨겨진 탑에서 장면이 끊기고, 가텔이 라푼젤의 머리를 빗겨주고 있다) 2편에서 이어짐.
